Grid Pros / Quick guide

Will a battery keep my home running?

Start with what must stay on.

Lights
Fridge
Phone

STEP 1 / 3

Pick your must-haves.

Start with lights, a fridge, phone charging and other key needs. Ask which circuits a proposed battery will power.

Do not rely on a general home battery plan for life-support needs. Make a separate emergency plan.

Read all three steps
  1. Pick your must-haves.

Start with lights, a fridge, phone charging and other key needs. Ask which circuits a proposed battery will power.

Do not rely on a general home battery plan for life-support needs. Make a separate emergency plan.

  2. Treat AC as a separate question.

Air conditioning, ovens and EV charging can draw much more power. Whole-home backup needs a design sized for your actual loads.

Runtime depends on battery capacity, what is running, charge level and weather. There is no one-size-fits-all runtime.

  3. Plan for the outage, too.

Solar alone generally shuts off in a power outage. Backup needs compatible equipment and safe isolation from the grid. Ask how the battery recharges.

Follow local evacuation and safety orders. A battery does not make a home safe during every storm.
