Question 1

Do I need my electric bill to start?

Accepted Answer

No. You do not need your bill. A few simple answers about your home are enough to start.

Question 2

Do I still have a power bill?

Accepted Answer

Possibly. Utility charges or a utility bill may still remain. You keep your power company account.

Question 3

Do I own the panels?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the plan. With a lease or power purchase agreement, a provider generally owns the system. With a loan or cash purchase, you buy it. Your proposal names the actual owner.

Question 4

How can I pay for solar?

Accepted Answer

Common options are a lease or power purchase agreement (PPA), a loan, or cash. PACE may be possible in some places, but it needs a separate review of your property and local program. A credit check may be needed later for some options. Nothing is approved until the provider says so.

Question 5

What if I move?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your plan. A lease or PPA may need to transfer, and the new owner may need to qualify. A loan or PACE assessment may need to be paid off or handled at sale. The exact rules are in your documents.

Question 6

Is savings guaranteed?

Accepted Answer

No. Savings are not guaranteed unless an actual signed agreement expressly says so.

Question 7

Will I see the payment before I sign?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Before you sign, you see the full price or any upfront amount, the payment schedule (including any yearly change or later payment change), and an estimate of the utility charges that remain. A cash purchase may have no monthly payment at all.

Question 8

Am I committing to anything by starting?

Accepted Answer

No. See My Solar Options shares your request for a personal review. You can stop at any point before signing.
